About Rhonda Kitchens

Emmy-winning journalist Rhonda Kitchens is the author of  “Ungettable” — the book about her journey to secure a conversation with, and answers from, convicted murderer and accused serial killer Felix Vail.

She has been the recipient of numerous Associated Press awards for investigative journalism and community impact projects. In 2019, she was awarded an Emmy in the Investigative Journalism category for a news special she produced on convicted murderer and accused serial killer Felix Vail. Winning that Emmy proved that it’s not the size of the market that matters, it’s the size of the heart and drive inside a journalist.

Rhonda is now based in her native Louisiana. She has worked as a news writer in Los Angeles as well as a producer in Mobile, Alabama, and an assistant news director in Beaumont, Texas. Her love of family and community kept calling her home, and she says it was the best decision she made for her personal and professional life.

During her career, she has covered some of the biggest investigations in Louisiana. Her notable stories include:

• The brutal murder of 4-year-old Mary Jean Thigpen.

• The deaths of the “Jeff Davis Eight.”

• The search for serial killer Derrick Todd Lee.
